  7. Student Aid CAN help you LEARN something FASTER than normal studying!
  8. WHY? Because rather than reading the information and trying to remember
  9. it, Student Aid challenges you to THINK of the right answer!  As you fail
  10. to answer - you learn (from your own mistakes). On top of that - you get
  11. instant feedback! And can continue onward, with minimal delay, learning
  12. more. You can even monitor your progress on various tests over time.
  13.  
  14. To best use the program you should collect the quizzes from your
  15. instructors during the semester and type in those questions (or similar
  16. ones from your class notes) as the semester goes on and then use Student
  17. Aid to refresh your memory before major tests and exams.
  18.  
  19. Though the data entry can be a lot of work initially, it does
  20. significantly aid in the review process. In this version of Student Aid
  21. data entry has been significantly been simplified to allow most
  22. everything to be done from the keyboard, and/or from the mouse.
  23.  
  24. The Main Menu area is the central place that allows you to access most
  25. all the features, such as [L]oad a test, [S]ave, [E]dit, [T]ake, [V]iew
  26. grades etc... Some of the features are also available through the use of
  27. pull down menus. And some options like changing screen or printing to a
  28. file are ONLY available from the pull down menu or /A-key combinations.

  30. Each area has its own set of gadgets which can be activated either by
  31. left mousebutton or by pressing the key that is underlined.

  39. [L]oad - This option will bring up a file requester to allow you
  40.   to select a test file to load from disk
  41.  
  42. [S]ave - This option will bring up a file requester prompting you
  43.   test name to save the currently test as (Default will be the current
  44.   name) and when you select 'ok' it will then save the test to disk.
  45.  
  46. [V]iew Grades - This takes you to the area where you can review the
  47.   test grades for the currently loaded test. After each test/quiz is
  48.   taken, the score is saved to disk (that is if your configuration is
  49.   set to save it). In this area you can monitor your progress in a trend
  50.   chart. You can also review grades for everyone who might have taken
  51.   that test.

  53. [T]ake test - This takes you to the area where you begin the test/quiz
  54.   practice/review process. Before this option can be executed a student
  55.   aid test must have been loaded, or created.
  56.  
  57. [E]dit test - This takes you to the area for editing the currently loaded
  58.   test. For the test to be valid, you must at least have 1 question.

  60. [C]reate test - Selecting this starts the processs for creating a new
  61.   test. There are basically 5 steps to creating a new test, they are:
  62.   1) click on this gadget to enter edit test area
  63.   2) select the answer FORMAT for your test (you can mix & match but
  64.      that makes it tricky because you'd have to exit edit mode, change
  65.      format and reenter edit)
  66.   3) add questions to test
  67.   4) exit edit mode back to main menu and give test a name and brief
  68.      description
  69.   5) save newly created test
  70.  
  71. [P]rint test - This takes you to the area where you can print selected
  72.   questions to a print file or directly to printer. You can also print
  73.   an answer sheet of those questions. To print a test to a file, you
  74.   need to enter the print area by selecting the pull down menu 'PRINT
  75.   AS...' selection.
  76.  
  77. [student name] - This gadget allows you change the name of the current
  78.   student. The purpose of maintaining names is to enable you to view
  79.   individual trends or progress charts of the quiz and/or test.
  80.  
  81. [test name and description] - This is the default path and name of the
  82.   currently loaded test. The description is saved within the test to
  83.   allow you to more specifically identify what kind of test it is.
  84.   If you are planning to Create a new test, then change this requester
  85.   after you start the CREATE process and add some questions else the
  86.   name & description will be lost when you select to Create test.

  96.   [New test] - Same as 'Create test' command on screen.

  98.   [Open test] - Same as 'Load' command on screen.

  100.   [Save test] - Similar to 'Save test' command on screen except it does
  101.     not bring up a filerequester to prompt for a filename.

  103.   [Save as..] - Same as 'Save' command on screen.

  105.   [Print test] - Same as 'Print' command on screen.

  107.   [Print as...] - Similar to 'Print' command except, when you select to
  108.     PRINT QUESTIONS or ANSWERS a file requester will prompt for a
  109.     destination print file name.

  111.   [About] - Lists info about program revision.

  113.   [Quit] - Exit Student Aid program.

  116. OPTIONS MENU:

  118.   [Use Workbench] - Makes the Student Aid program run as a window
  119.      on the workbench screen.
  120.  
  121.   [Custom screen] - Makes the Student Aid program run its own custom
  122.      screen.

  124.   [Configuration] - This takes you to the area where you can set the
  125.      default configuration options during bootup, including the save
  126.      grades options.
